What is Paintless
Dent Removal (PDR)?
Dent Removal (PDR)?
PDR is an advanced set of techniques which are used to repair vehicle panels which have sustained minor dents. The damaged area can be manipulated back to its original state without the need for fillers, paint or any chemicals whatsoever.
This means that doors, bonnets, wings, etc, can be fixed without visiting a traditional body shop. Not only that, but our full mobile service can come straight to your door, while typically costing a fraction of what you’d expect to pay at a garage.
Small dents and dings can be caused by any number of external factors, including hailstones, shopping trolleys, other car doors or even stray golf balls.
There are various methods we can use to coax dents back to showroom condition. This includes gently easing them out via a ‘glue pulling’ process, or getting behind the panel and using our specialist tools to help massage the creases out of the metal. None of this damages the existing paint in any way.
Repairing dents is quick and convenient with PDR. The vast majority of jobs can be completed while you wait, and usually take around an hour.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes. We have specialised equipment which is designed to specifically repair dents to aluminium panels. The process is similar to fixing steel panels, but takes a little more effort and skill to produce the invisible finish.
There are several benefits:
- The paintless dent repair method does not damage the paint or require re-painting
- You don’t have to worry about fill materials shrinking or expanding later
- It is typically cheaper. There will be some cases where we cost more at the time of repair, but factoring in the maintained value of your vehicle still make us the better option in the long term
- It is much faster. If you take your car into a body shop to have a dent fixed, it could be off the road for a week or two. We can usually get your dent repaired the same day
- It is better quality. We preserve the factory finish to maintain the value and look of your vehicle. In fact, PDR is the only form of repair allowed on brand new cars for them to still be considered new on the forecourt
No. Today’s factory paints are very flexible and can handle being moved back and forth as the metal in the dent is eased back into place. If the paint is not already scratched from the damage impact, it will not have any problems with our PDR procedure. In fact, paintless dent repair is the only way to successfully fix dents without damaging your paintwork
In the vast majority of cases, yes, the vehicle will be repaired back to its original state. There are some cases where the PDR method cannot repair your vehicle to 100%. If that is the case, we will inform you ahead of time and give you a percentage of completion that we believe we will be able to achieve.
No. When repair is done correctly, the metal is back to its original strength and there is no way for it to revert to the dented state. When the metal is formed by the manufacturer, that is the shape that it wants to be in, so we are actually moving the metal back to where it naturally wants to be, and that is where it will want to stay.
No. There are certain situations – although those are decreasing each day – where PDR is not able to fix some dents. The best way is to get a free estimate from us, and our technicians will make an honest assessment as to whether we are able to fix your vehicle.
Not if we can avoid it and never without your permission. Too often, drilling is just a way to make the technicians’ lives easier and not completely necessary for the repair. If there is any way at all for us to access a dent without drilling we will do it, no matter how much extra work it requires from us. If there is absolutely no way for us to fix a dent without drilling, we will advise you of this fact. It will be your choice whether we drill or not. If we do drill, it will be in a hidden or inconspicuous area, and we will rustproof and plug the hole. For the avoidance of doubt, we take great pride in our PDR work and view drilling an absolute last resort.
We do offer a multi-dent discount. If you have several dents on one panel, we can often add in the extra dents for a very low price. We also offer a reasonable whole-car price if you have a lot of dents on your vehicle, ie, from hail damage.
We can fix minor scratches and damage to the dented area. If there is extensive paint damage, however, we will usually advise another repair option.
No. Many established motor related businesses in Norway offer PDR, however 100% of them do NOT carry out the work themselves; they sub-contract it to whoever will do it the cheapest. Often these technicians are untrained and unqualified. This leaves you paying more for what is always a substandard repair.
At DentMaster you will deal directly with the technician who will carry out the dent removal on your car. This means cutting out the expensive middle man, reducing your cost of repair, while the technicians receives the full value of his work. Where you see our sign you are guaranteed the highest quality PDR, and the right price. Support your local PDR technician.
Yes, we can! Dealerships often charge an arm and a leg if they think you have put “excessive” wear and tear on the outside of your car. The amount you spend on paintless dent repair is often a lot less than you would spend in fees. It’s easy to send it back looking pristine, so why not?
